Nicole Close is a Halifax-based Assistant Director and one of Nova Scotia’s leading production professionals. She began making her own films as a way to process and heal after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Nicole’s work is rooted in lived experience and is driven by curiosity, vulnerability, and a desire to find meaning through connection to the body, the ocean, and community.

Her debut film, Projections (2021), is a brave experimental short that explores her relationship with her body before and after treatment, and her journey toward acceptance. Nicole then made Three Little Words (2024) through the Atlantic Film Cooperative (AFCCOP) DIY Doc Filmmaking Program. The film is a short documentary examining the impact of words, water, community, and cancer.

Nicole was a finalist in CBC’s Pitch This! and pitched her short film Saltwater Cure live at the Women in Film and Television Atlantic (WIFT-AT) Making Waves 2025 conference. Saltwater Cure explores surfing, cancer, and radical acceptance. The project is expected to be in pre-production in Spring/Summer 2026.
