Nicole Close is a Halifax-based Assistant Director and one of the leading production professionals in the Nova Scotia film industry. Nicole began making her own films as a way to process and heal after being diagnoses with breast cancer. Her debut film Projections (2021) was a brave experimental short film that explored her relationship with her body, before and after treatment and her journey towards acceptance. Nicole’s latest completed work, Three Little Words (2024) is a short documentary that explores the impact of words, water, community and cancer. Three Little Words will screen Spring 2025.

Nicole was just announced as one of the finalists for the CBC Pitch This!. She will pitch her short film, Saltwater Cure live at Women in Film and Television Atlantic (WIFT-AT) Making Waves 2025 conference on April 5, 3:30pm at the Lord Nelson. The prize is $10k from CBC, in-kind equipment (Equifilm, Sunbelt Rentals, Starpower Atlantic) and in-kind post production (The Hideout Studios / 902 Post).

Saltwater Cure is the story of a young woman who finds herself facing an uncertain future. All she wants to do is enjoy her last surf but her mind has other plans.
